Meet India’s New Superstars – Hima Das, Vanith Muthayya and Ritu Karidhal

This week belongs to new superstars Hima Das, Muthayya Vanitha & Ritu Karidhal who achieved big and made India proud. They came from modest family background and achieved their goals with their focus, faith and perseverance.

Ace Indian sprinter Hima Das continued her sensational sprint form as she clinched her fifth gold in July 2019 by claiming the top honours in a 400-metre race in Czech Republic.

Hima Das had spectacular journey from rice field in Ding Assam to international sports events without little formal training and support.

She won the gold after she clocked a season-best time of 52.09 seconds in her pet competition at the Nove Mesto nad Metuji Grand Prix on Saturday.

After resolving technical snag, ISRO’s Chandrayaan 2 successfully took off from Sriharikota. All credit should go to Muthayya Vanitha & Ritu Karidhal, ISRO’s two women directors in charge of the mission, even though their work isn’t over until Chandrayaan 2 lands on moon in September later this year.

Muthayya Vanitha (Project Director – ISRO Chandrayaan 2) has become the first ever woman project director at ISRO, breaking glass ceilings and barriers at ISRO.

Ritu Karidhal, Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from IISC, Bengaluru is known as a “Rocket Woman” of India, was the deputy operations director for Mangalyaan in 2013-2014. She has received the ISRO Team Award for Mars Orbiter Mission and also the ISRO Young Scientist Award from former President APJ Abdul Kalam in 2007.

While India applaud their achievements, we must remember that families sacrifices to support them in achieving their dreams.

These superstars have also changed the popular notion that people in rural areas are not open minded like urban people when it comes allowing women in sports or technology, which were the male dominated fields.
