Mrs Priyanka Chauhan Takes Charge as New Consul-General of India to Hong Kong and Macau

Mrs. Priyanka Chauhan assumed charge as the Consul-General of India to Hong Kong SAR on 7 May 2019.

Consul General Mrs Priyanka Chauhan called on Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Hon’ble Mrs Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor. They discussed areas of mutual interest and ways to further strengthen ties between India and Hong Kong, especially in innovation and education sectors.

The CG Mrs Priyanka Chauhan called on Mr Xie Feng, Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and received the Exequatur from the Commissioner.

Brief Background: Mrs. Priyanka Chauhan joined the Indian Foreign Service in 2004. As a career diplomat, she has served in the Embassy of India in Madrid and in various capacities in the Ministry of External Affairs handling India’s relations with the United States, Canada, Bhutan and Nepal, and as the head of the Ministry’s Finance Division. She has also served as the Deputy Head of Office of the Commonwealth Secretary-General in the Commonwealth Secretariat in London. 

Born in 1978, she obtained a graduate degree in Architecture from CEPT Ahmedabad followed by a brief stint practicing architecture and writing for India’s leading national newspaper, Times of India, before joining the Indian Foreign Service. While in service, she obtained a post-graduate degree in Defence and Strategic Studies from Madras University, as part of the joint civil-military training in India’s premier tri-service institution, DSSC Wellington.
