Reported By Mrs. Chitra Sridhar: An evening of Carnatic music KUTCHERI and a tribute to the great masters of Carnatic Music, Dec 9th was an amazing experience, a day to cherish. Stellar performance by Smt M Roopa Shastry, an ALL INDIA RADIO artist from Chennai and a disciple of Smt Suguna Varadachary.
The concert was graced by the presence of Counselor general Sri Puneet Agarwal and his wife Smt Smitha Agarwal. Smt Roopa is a regular performer at RTHK and various concerts across India and Hong Kong. She has recently been featured in Indian Raaga, a great platform for musicians around the world. Set Roopa was accompanied by Smt Bhairavi Raman on Violin and Sri Aravindan Jegannathan on the Mridangam. Smt Bhairavi, a young violin artist from Australia is the disciple of Sri Murali Kumar and Sri S Varadarajan and has been performing across India, Australia and New Zealand for the past fourteen years. Set Bhairavi is trained in Carnatic vocal and western classical violin. Sri Aravindan, a disciple of late Sri Poongalun Sabesa Iyer is a chartered accountant by profession and has been a regular performer in various concerts in Hong Kong. He has collaborated with Set Roopa in many concerts in Hong Kong.
Following the typical Carnatic concert, Smt Roopa performed a Varnam followed by a Sanskrit song on Lord Ganesha. Paying Obeyance to legendary Musicians Smt Roopa performed various Kritis composed by Sri Tyagaraja, Sri Muthuswamy Dikshitar, Saint Annamacharya, Dr Sri Balamurali Krishna, Sri Gopalkrishna Bharathi, Sri Kanakadasa, Sri T R Subramaiam. Being the 150th Birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi Ji, Smt Roopa sang a tribute, the famous Vaishnava Janato, the request of out Counselor General Sri Puneet Agarwal Ji.
