Jeera (cumin) Rice recipe Ingredients

  • 250 gram of basmati rice
  • 2 spoonfuls of cow ghee (clarified butter)
  • 1 and 1/2 spoonfuls of cumin seeds
  • Chopped coriander leaves for garnishing
  • Salt to taste

Step 1: Keep all ingredients ready

Step 2: Wash your basmati rice

  • Drain the water
  • Keep it aside for 20-30 minutes before frying

Step 3: Fry basmati rice

  • Add ghee into frying pan
  • When ghee becomes hot/smoking point, add cumin seeds (please do not burn the ghee)
  • Add basmati rice and fry it on medium flame for 4-5 minutes

Step 4: Cook basmati rice

  • Add fried raw basmati rice into rice cooker
  • Add double quantity of water
  • Add salt to taste
  • Cover it and switch on the rice cooker

Step: 5: Serve the jeera rice

  • take out the cooked rice in a serving bowl
  • Garnish it with coriander leaves
  • Serve jeera rice with vegetarian or non vegetarian curries.

*You can also use India Gate’s basmati rice (Feast Rozana) for this recipe.
