Statue of Unity: The World’s Tallest Statue

On occasion of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birth anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Statue of Unity on 31 October 2018. Statue of unity is project is known as “Valley of Flowers”.

The Statue of Unity is a dedicated to Sardar Patel, who integrated India by uniting 500+ princely states after the Britishers left India. Look at the India’s map when Britishers left India in 1947 to understand the magnanimity of work done by Sardar Patel in uniting the nation.

Apart from integrating India, the visionary leader contributed towards India in various fields such as rebuilding Somnath temple, establishing modern Indian Services (IAS and IPS), seeking the justice for minorities, tribals, Kaira District Co-operative Milk Producers Union Limited (this receded the AMUL milk brand), and many more initiatives to strengthen the nation.

This statue build in honor of Sardar Patel and his contribution. This will also remind Indians the value of unity. The foundation stone of statue was laid by then Chief Minister of Gujarat Narendra Modi, (currently the Prime Minister of India) on 31 October 2013, the 138th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. This monument is designed by famous artist, Ram V. Sutar and is located facing the Narmada Dam, 3.2 km (2.0 mi) away on the river island called Sadhu Bet near Rajpipla in Gujarat.

It is the world’s tallest statue with the height of 182 metres (597 ft). Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Rashtriya Ekta Trust (SVPRET), a special purpose vehicle was established by the Government of Gujarat for its construction and the outreach programme was carried out across India starting December 2013.

Larsen & Toubro (L & T) won the contract in October 2014 to build the statue for ₹2,989 crore (US$420 million) for the design, construction and maintenance. 22500 Mton of cement is used to build the Statue of Unity, the WorldsTallestStatue? The Statue of Unity will have a viewing gallery at 153 m, which can accommodate up to 200 visitors at a go, and will offer an expansive view of the dam and environs?
