Background: This extradition bill was introduced after a 19-year-old Hong Kong man allegedly murdered his 20-year-old pregnant girlfriend in Taiwan last year.
The man fled to Hong Kong and could not be extradited to Taiwan as the two countries do not have an extradition treaty. Although Hong Kong has extradition treaty with 20 countries including UK, US, but it doesn’t have extradition treaty with mainland China.
